Departments Deliver Updates to Commission

DeKALB COUNTY, Ala. — (Full LIVE Video on Facebook) The DeKalb County Commission held their regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, July 23 at the DeKalb County Activities Building. 

At the meeting, Sherrie Hiett and Jeff Walker of Family Services of North Alabama addressed the Commission regarding the many services they provide across the area. These services include: free sexual assault services, parenthood programs, online safety training, and many more. Family Services of North Alabama have a home office in Albertville, but their DeKalb County Office is in Fort Payne at the DeKalb County Health Department. They are active on all social media and can be found online at www.familyservicesna.com. 

DeKalb County Road Department Superintendent Tom Broyles delivered a maintenance update regarding road reclamation and patchwork across the county. 

Broyles stated that work is expected to begin on Old Highway 35, which has been closed for some time, by the end of July. He also updated the Commission regarding the regular truck auctions that the Road Department will participate in.

Emily McCamy of the DeKalb County Council on Aging reported that the Council will be looking to hire a new manager at Collinsville Senior Center. She also gave an update regarding the organization’s many upcoming events, which can be found on their Facebook page.

Cynthia Hancock of the DeKalb County Public Library stated that a mobile mammogram bus would be available at the Library on Tuesday, August 6 from 9am to 3pm. Free mammograms will be offered to anyone over the age of 35. Insurance is not required, but if you do have insurance, please your card. Pre-registration forms can be found at the DeKalb County Library. 

In other business, DeKalb County Commission President Ricky Harcrow was reappointed to the Association of County Commissions of Alabama. 

The next meeting of the DeKalb County Commission will be held at 10am on Tuesday, August 13 at the DeKalb County Activities Building.
