IDER, Ala. — According to the family, the 24-year-old gunshot victim is currently in critical condition in a medically induced coma. He was transported by DeKalb Ambulance Service to Erlanger Hospital on Tuesday where he underwent surgery after being shot in the head. The incident took place in Ider (Correction from the original release, which stated "Henagar") on County Road 739, with the victim's father currently being held in the DeKalb County Jail.

At approximately 9:30 pm on Tuesday, September 5th the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office received a call about a domestic dispute between father and son with shots fired at a residence. When Investigators, Deputies, Ider Police and Alabama State Troopers arrived on the scene, they found a 24 year old male that appeared to have a gunshot wound to the head.

The father, Scott K. Slaton, is still being held in the DeKalb County Jail on charges of Obstructing Government Operations and Resisting Arrest. According to the DeKalb County Sheriff's Website, bail has not yet been set. Slaton was arrested at the scene shortly after the incident.
