Florida college student arrested after incident on Cherokee Co. Trip

CENTRE, Ala. — A Tallahassee College student is behind bars in Cherokee County after an incident occurred on a club trip. Patrick Cox was transported back to Cherokee County from Tallahassee, Florida on charges of first degree sexual abuse.

Cox was part of a college group visiting the area. No further information is available at this time. We'll update as more can be released.

According to Cherokee County Sheriff Jeff Shaver: "A man was taken into custody by Sheriff’s Office investigators on Thursday, November 16, 2017. The investigation stemmed from an incident which allegedly occurred while a group of college students from Florida were visiting Cherokee County.

The victim reported the crime with the Tallahassee Police Department and detectives notified the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office. Investigator Tony Monroy and Chief Investigator Josh Summerford traveled to Tallahassee, met with Florida authorities, and conducted the investigation, which resulted in the arrest of 23 year-old Patrick Cox.

The suspect was transported to the Cherokee County Detention Center and charged with first degree sexual abuse.

UPDATE (5:17 pm, 11/17/2017): According to WEIS in Centre, Cox was released earlier today on a $35,000 bond.
