RAINSVILLE, Ala.-- (Full Video on Southern Torch Facebook) The Rainsville City Council held its regular meeting on June 6.

Jerry Clifton, Rainsville Freedom Run Organizer, addressed the Council regarding the run that will be held on June 18.

This race will mark the 14th Rainsville Freedom Run and according to Clifton, this is the biggest year yet. The number of registrations is up for the race when most races across the country are seeing a decrease. The Rainsville Freedom Run is one of only two races in the country that is seeing an increase in participants.

The prestigious Peachtree 10K in Atlanta, Georgia normally holds a lottery for the 60,000 runners who wish to participate. This year the race is open enrollment.

Clifton shared with the Council that more than 150 businesses or individuals have sponsored or provided door prizes for the run. Clifton stated that when the event is over, more than $400,000 will be donated to local charities.

The Rainsville Freedom Run will feature runners from seventeen states and internationally from Kenya since covid restrictions have been lifted.

Clifton expressed his appreciation to Mayor Rodger Lingerfelt, the Rainsville City Council, Rainsville Police Chief Michael Edmondson, the Rainsville Police Department, Rainsville Fire Chief Williemac Wright, and the Rainsville Fire Department for working with him to make this race safe.

If you are interested in participating in the run, visit the Rainsville Freedom Run Facebook page or go to runsignup.com/Race/Al/Rainsville/RAINSVILLE FREEDOMRUN10K5K/ for more information. Participants can walk or run the family-friendly event.
