Rainsville implements Sewer Rate Increase

RAINSVILLE, Ala.-- (Full video online) The Rainsville City Council held their regularly scheduled meeting on Monday, June 7.

The City of Rainsville will be partnering with the Section-Dutton Water Board for billing sewer customers. Mayor Rodger Lingerfelt informed the Council that the Water Board calculates the sewer bill according to water usage. The minimum rate will be $26.38. Lingerfelt stated that sewer rates have not increased in sixteen years, despite the USDA advising the city five years ago to raise the rates.  

Lingerfelt went on to state that letters will be mailed out in the coming weeks explaining the billing increase to Rainsville citizens.

The Rainsville Sign Code Ordinance which passed on 3-15-2021, authorized the City Council to set a fee for sign permits.  On Monday night , the Council passed Resolution 06-07-2021 (A)  which set the fee for sign permits at $25.00 per sign. 

The Council approved a real estate contract between the City of Rainsville and Terry Taylor in the amount of $250,000. This property, according to Lingerfelt “will be a positive for the City in the middle of town.” The Council empowered Mayor Lingerfelt to obtain financing with First Southern State Bank. 

The Council also approved this year's paving projects for the City. The streets that will be paved include: Malcolm, Rabbit Run, Tucker and Santileon Lane. 

In other business, the Council approved:

  • Purchase of computer and software for the Annex payable to SHI in the amount of $1,108.60.
  • Police Training for Johnathan Haney
  • Purchase of (2) cameras from GLC Enterprises Inc in the amount of $467.95
  • Trimming Trees on Hodges Street by Michael Wilbanks, in the amount of $950.00
  • Guardrail on Boozer Bridge in the amount of $15,040.00
  • Purchase of 100 garbage cans from Toter in the amount of $7,102.40
  • Purchase of Kubota Lawn Mower for Boykin Tractor in the amount of $13,900
  • Passed Resolution 06-07-2021 (B) surplusing mowers from the Park and Rec Department (60” Hustler and a 48” Hustler mower)
  • Appointed Community Consultants to Administrator  and for Ladd Engineering to serve as Engineer for ADECA Grant/Sewer Plant

The next Rainsville City Council meeting will be held on June 21, 2021 with work session beginning at 4:00 and regular session at 4:30 p.m.
