RAINSVILLE FOCUSES ON ROADWORK

RAINSVILLE, ALA.-- The Rainsville City Council held their regularly scheduled meeting on July 19.

The meeting primarily focused on roadwork within the City.  The Council accepted a paving bid from Wiregrass, in the amount of $289,609.88.  According to City Engineer, Sam Phillips, there will be 2.2 total miles of paving completed before winter.  Streets that will be included in this year's paving project will be Rabbit Run Road, Malcolm Avenue, Tucker Road, and Santileon Lane.  

The Council approved nine (9) new concrete headwalls to be installed on Plainview Street. The price will be $14,000 and will include pipe and grates. 

The Council amended a quote for headwalls on Boozer Road from $4,000 to $5,400.00.

Future projects that will be completed from Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) refunds, will be Kirk Road. According to Councilman Rickey Bryrum, the tiles are in “bad shape”.

The Council authorized Jones Service to clean sewer lines from North George Wallace to Hwy 35, in the amount of $18,000.  The sewer has been in operation since 1978.  Jones Service will also use a camera to detect any problems with the sewer lines.

In other business, the Council approved travel and training requests from:

Rainsville Police Chief Michael Edmondson and Assistant Police Chief Matt Crum for Police Chief Conference in Orange Beach, August 2-5 in the amount of $450

City Clerk, Kelly Frazier for Clerks Conference in Tuscaloosa, August 3-6

Court Clerk, Tammie Mason for training in Hoover, August 20 in the amount of $325

Derek Husky to replace Derek Summerford for Fire Conference in Orange  Beach, August 8-12

Animal Control Officer Sandy Moon for online training in the amount of $285

Online Revenue enforcement training for Sandy Moon and Kennedi Traylor in the amount of $447

The next meeting of the Rainsville City Council will be held on August 2, with a work session beginning at 4:00 pm and the Regular Session at 4:30.
