POWELL, Ala. — John Camp, Instructor of Mathematics at Northeast Alabama Community College (NACC), has been chosen as the Dr. Charles M. Pendley Founders Chair Most Outstanding Faculty Member for 2018-2019. The announcement was made recently by the Founders Chair Committee at a college luncheon held in his honor.

Dr. David Campbell, President of NACC, welcomed guests to the luncheon honoring Camp. He said, “Welcome everyone to the 2018-19 Founders Chair Award for the Most Outstanding Faculty Member at Northeast Alabama Community College.”

Campbell added, “The committee always does an outstanding job selecting a recipient.  Lallie Leighton, Joyce Kennamer and Pat Freeman are our committee members present.” He turned it over to Lallie Leighton, the new chair, to make the announcement.

Lallie Leighton said, “We are pleased to be here today to announce the Most Outstanding Faculty Member for this year. This year’s recipient has given four years of service to Northeast as a Mathematics Instructor and it is our pleasure to name Mr. John Camp as the Outstanding Faculty Member for 2018-2019. We all agree he is an excellent choice.”

The Dr. Charles M. Pendley Founders Chair award is chosen each year. This is the 34th year that it has been presented.  The selection is determined from nominations made by the students and faculty members.  This award is presented to a faculty member who demonstrates exemplary qualities such as preparation, organization, planning, loyalty, community service, effectiveness in dealing with students and working harmoniously with others.  Today’s recipient has met all requirements. The award comes with a cash stipend and the recipient will be honored at graduation. Mr. Camp’s name will be placed on a plaque to be displayed at the College.

Camp started his employment as an adjunct math instructor at Northeast in 2004 and became a full time instructor in the fall of 2015.  The son of Clemon and Becky Camp and graduate of Plainview High School, John went on to Auburn University and earned his B.S. & M.Ed. in mathematics.  After graduating, John taught at Auburn High School for 5½ years while his wife Lori completed her degree in pharmacy. After moving back home in 2004, John taught math at Plainview for 10 years before being hired full time at NACC.  John and Lori live in Rainsville with their three children Grady, Sadie and Wylie.

Camp said, “I feel extremely honored and blessed to have been chosen for this honor. It is a joy to work with faculty members and administrators that make it their goal to improve student lives every day, and I thank Dr. Campbell for giving me the opportunity four years ago to be a member of the NACC family.”

Campbell expressed congratulations to Camp.  “We are very proud of you, John.” He continued, “You are a highly regarded instructor who is respected by students and colleagues alike.  The Founders Chair Committee has made an excellent choice for the Outstanding Faculty Member Award.”

Campbell then acknowledged past winners of the Founders Chair who were present. They included himself, Joan Tucker, Joan Reeves, Adam Niblett, and Brent Satterfield. “We are very proud to have you all here today. There would be 34 in all.” He also acknowledged the Presidential Hosts who represent the college at all sorts of events. Assisting today were Ashlyn Johnson of Fyffe, majoring in Public Relations, and Hannah Green of Section, majoring in Elementary Education.   Campbell also recognized Andrea Okwu, sponsor of the Presidential Hosts, Chasley Bellomy, event planner who did the decorations and planning for the event, and LuAnne Hastings the chef for the day. The invocation was given by Larry Guffey, Dean of Administrative Services.
