IDER, Ala. — Wayne Lyles was named principal of Ider High School during the May 25th Board meeting of the DeKalb County Board of Education. Mr. Lyles comes to DeKalb County after a successful stint as an administrator in the Fort Payne City School system where he began as an agribusiness teacher and most recently served as an assistant principal at Fort Payne Middle School. He also served in previous years as an assistant principal at both of  the Fort Payne elementary schools, Wills Valley and William Avenue.

DeKalb County Schools Superintendent, Dr. Jason Barnett said of Lyles, “I have always been impressed with Mr. Lyles’ knowledge, professionalism, work-ethic and his ability to work within many environments. We were looking for a candidate who could bring strong leadership skills and new perspectives to Ider High School and DeKalb County, and I believe that Mr. Lyles was just that candidate. I also believe his background will serve us well as we transition and grow into a more modern school system, and I look forward to working with him as we serve the students of DeKalb County together.”

When asked about this new assignment, Mr Lyles said, “ I am honored that Dr. Barnett and the DeKalb County School Board have the confidence in me to lead Ider High School as the Principal. I have been fortunate to work in a system with very good schools, alongside strong administrators, that have prepared me well for this position."

Lyles continued, "Ider is a community that is passionate about its school and I look forward to working with all community stakeholders to make Ider High School become the best school that it can be. I want Ider High School to be known as a school that educates its graduates to a high achievement level and prepares them for any future vocation, career or academic goals they may pursue.”

Mr. Lyles looks forward to sharing his vision and goals for Ider High School. Some of the major goals Mr. Lyles has are to: implement new technologies in the classrooms that will enhance instruction and make lessons more interactive for the students, ensure strategic teaching is utilized so that students are able to apply knowledge and learned skills, add opportunities for students to pursue special interests through new clubs and sports, and to improve facilities through renovation, maintenance, and possible additions.

The community will hold a meet and greet on Sunday, July 30, from 2 - 4 pm in the Ider HS Cafeteria where the public and local community can meet and learn more about Mr. Lyles and his vision.
