DeKALB COUNTY, Ala. — The DeKalb County Commission held their regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, June 25. In the absence of Commission President Ricky Harcrow, who was in Montgomery on county business, Pro Tem Chris Kuykendall presided over the meeting.

DeKalb County Road Superintendent Tom Broyles reported to the Commission that the first two rounds of herbicide spraying had been completed. He stated that the Wade Gap slide areas, due to the recent flooding, were 95 percent complete. Broyles also said that County Road 935 will be repaired beginning in mid-July.

DeKalb County Administrator Matt Sharp presented an update on federal funding for county roads. A proposed Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) funding agreement was approved to secure $550,000 for County Road improvements.

The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office requested the following, which were approved by the Commission:

  • Purchased a 2014 Chevrolet Tahoe from the Geraldine Police Department
  • Approval of a transport vehicle from the state bid list
  • Repair or replacement of the controller system at the Sheriff’s Office

Kuykendall explained the recent agreement with the County and Arrow Disposal for garbage pickup. Individuals who are not already enrolled and seeking county garbage service may attend a meeting to sign-up at the DeKalb County Schools Coliseum on June 29 from 8am to 11am.

In other business:

  • Approved the hiring of Amelia Baker at the DeKalb County Revenue Department
  • Approved a census resolution to help prevent the loss of a congressional seat in Alabama
  • Approved a sealed bid from Twin City for the purchase of a 2019 Chevrolet Tahoe for $33,000
