MONTGOMERY, Ala. — ForestPAC, the Political Action Committee of the Alabama Forestry Association (AFA) has endorsed State Senator Steve Livingston (R-Scottsboro) for re-election to Senate District 8.

“Steve is a pro-business guy who knows what it takes to run a business and meet a payroll. He did a great job in his first term and we expect even better things from Steve in the future,” said AFA Executive Vice President Chris Isaacson.

“Senator Livingston serves on the Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry Committee, the Senate General Fund Committee and a host of other very important posts. Having only served one term, it is clear that Steve did not require on-the-job training to become an important legislative leader right off the bat,” Isaacson added. “The kind of leadership that Steve exhibits is a must if we are to continue to move our state in a positive direction.”    

Senator Livingston was elected in 2014 after then-incumbent Shadrack McGill decided not to seek reelection. McGill unseated long-serving, powerful Democrat Lowell Barron in 2010.

Livingston is a 1974 graduate of Scottsboro High School and a 1978 graduate of the University of Alabama. Steve owns and works at The Fuel Center, Inc., a distributor of Chevron Gasoline and lubricants.

Steve lost his wife Sandra to lung cancer during the primary season in 2014. Sandra asked that Steve continue his Senate District 8 campaign that year. With the help of his family and friends, under very trying circumstances, Steve won the Republican primary and then went on to defeat his Democrat opponent in 2014 with a vote of 72% to 27%.

“I very much appreciate the support of the Alabama Forestry Association in my 2018 reelection bid. The AFA represents hundreds of thousands of forest landowners and an industry that has at least one forestry-related business in every county in the state,” Senator Livingston noted. “It is a great comfort to me to have the support of an industry that forms the economic backbone of so many of our rural communities.”

The 2018 statewide primary election will take place on June 5, 2018 with runoffs slated for July 17, 2018. The General Election will take place on November 6, 2018.
