By Staff Reports

FORT PAYNE, Ala. — According to the District Attorney’s Office: District Attorney Mike O’Dell announces the successful conclusion of a case against William Scott “Scotty” Goldin, age 58 of Valley Head, for the Unlawful Distribution of a Controlled Substance and Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance.

Goldin was arrested May 28, 2014 and charged with Unlawful Distribution of a Controlled Substance in connection with a sale of methamphetamine.  Goldin was arrested again on May 22, 2015 and charged with Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance after he was found to have meth in his possession.

On September 7, 2017, Goldin entered a guilty plea in each case before Circuit Judge Randall Cole.

Goldin was sentenced under the Alabama Sentencing Standards to 84 months imprisonment. He requested that his sentence be diverted to the Community Corrections Program, and the District Attorney’s Office reserved the right to oppose that request. Judge Cole will decide that issue at a later date.

Deputy District Attorney Scott Lloyd prosecuted the case. Lloyd said that Investigator Gary Hill of the DeKalb County Drug Task Force turned in an excellent investigation that led to Goldin’s conviction.

Lloyd added, “Taking drug dealers off the streets is a high priority, and it has been my privilege to serve the citizens of DeKalb and Cherokee Counties by prosecuting this case and many others for over 20 years.  I would like to thank District Attorney Mike O’Dell for that opportunity.”
