MENTONE, Ala. On Saturday, March 4th, the Farm at Windy Hill in Mentone will host a Soup and Song lunch from 11 AM till 2 in the afternoon.

Those in attendance will be able to dine on soups and sandwiches made with ingredients either grown or raised on the farm while enjoying music from Atlanta-based musician Caroline Herring.

According to Megan Halderman, who works at Windy Hill, and has been a big part of setting this event up, Saturday’s luncheon was a way to kick off the spring events at the farm. Though this is the first time an event exactly like this has been held, Windy Hill has held farm to table lunches of a relatively similar nature in the past.

“We definitely plan on hosting several farm to table meals throughout the year, but the theme may differ each time,” Halderman said.

Overall, one of the key reasons that events like Saturday’s Soup and Song lunch are held, Halderman explained, is that it “gives people and families the chance to come out to the farm, see it, and experience it.”

This weekend will mark another series of events restarting as the spring begins to arrive in north Alabama. On Friday, Windy Hill’s weekly open farm market will be set up from 3 until 6 PM. During the weekly market, which runs on Fridays from early spring until around November, the public will be able to purchase products grown or raised at the farm.

The event begins Saturday morning at 11 am, at the Farm at Windy Hill. Admission to the luncheon is $5, with children 12 and under getting in free. Those in attendance can choose to purchase food for an additional cost, or simply sit and enjoy the musical entertainment.
