DeKalb Deputies make three separate drug arrests this weekend

By Staff Reports

FORT PAYNE, Ala. — From having to use a taser on a woman in Fort Payne, to a house party in Collinsville, DeKalb County Deputies had a busy weekend.

On December 18, the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office went to a residence on County Road 515 to do a welfare check. When Deputies and Sylvania Police Officers arrived at the residence Heather Nicole Smith, 27 of Fort Payne appeared to be high on drugs and was in possession of a knife. Deputies and Officers asked Smith several times to drop the knife but Smith would not drop it. Smith was stabbing at the air, climbed up on a washing machine and started stabbing toward the deputies and officers. In order to keep Smith, the Deputies and Officers safe, Deputies had to tase Smith to get the knife away from her. Smith arrested and charged with Assault 3rd and Resisting Arrest.

On an unrelated arrest, on December 17th Deputies were called to a residence at a trailer park on County Road 52 for a large house party with under age drinking. When Deputies and Fyffe Police Officers arrived they found several minors under the age of 21 that had been drinking and marijuana present at the residence. As a result Timothy Levi Guffey, 22 of Collinsville was arrested and charged with Unlawful Possession of Marijuana 2nd and Illegal Open House Party. Attempts were made to contact parents of the minors that were at the party. This is still an ongoing investigation.

On December 16th the Sheriff’s Office received a call from a concerned citizen about a vehicle sitting in the parking lot of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church on Highway 227 and that it appeared the driver, a male subject, was passed out. When Deputies arrived they tried waking the male subject, after several attempts the male subject woke up. When deputies got the male subject from the vehicle it appeared he was under the influence of something. When deputies looked in the vehicle they found a scale, a white powered substance and some pills. At that time the DeKalb County Drug and Major Crimes Unit was called to the scene. Chandler Scott Poss, 25 of Boaz was arrested and charged with Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance, Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Public Intoxication.

Sheriff Harris says “Deputies and our fellow Officers had a busy weekend and did a great job on these arrest and keeping everyone safe.”
